Phytochemistry
About Course
This Phytochemistry Internship is an advanced analytical program designed to train students in the systematic study of bioactive compounds derived from plants, moving from raw botanical matter to isolated pure molecules. Participants will develop technical mastery in sophisticated extraction strategies, including supercritical fluid extraction and ultrasonication, followed by comprehensive phytochemical screening for secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and glycosides. The curriculum focuses heavily on high-resolution analytical techniques, providing hands-on experience with $R_f$ value calculation in Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), Column Chromatography for compound isolation, and the interpretation of spectroscopic data from HPLC and UV-Vis for quantitative standardization. By integrating principles of bio-assay guided fractionation and structural elucidation, the program prepares interns for specialized careers in natural product research, pharmacognosy, and the development of plant-based therapeutic agents.
